Our Young and Talented Farmers
Meet Pete and Chadam

On your Farm visits, have you seen or spoken with our two Young Farmer Sons, Pete and Chadam?  Whether they are familiar faces or new friends, please say hello to these guys when you next visit Flamig Farm. Our two sons are advocates of natural agriculture, all animals (farm or not), and of creating space for the next generation to become the best they can be.

Here's a bit of an introduction to whom they are and to their hopes, dreams and plans for the future of Flamig Farm.

Pete ( 20 yrs old) was scheduled to go to UCONN to study Agriculture and Environmental Science but decided to dive directly into studying the skills needed to operate Flamig Farm.  On an average morning ( not including the unscheduled things that ALWAYS happen on a farm) he:
-operates tractors to move manure and feed large round bales of hay to animals,
-teaches a group at Summer Camp and leads his own “Toddler class,”
-studies with Farmer Julie to learn so many needed management skills, including bookkeeping, budgeting, Point of Sale systems, and general office and customer service skills,
-is learning carpentry, plumbing and vehicle mechanical skills,
-is becoming a people leader and honing his people skills including often
working “out front” in the office to help keep him closely in touch with our wonderful customers.

Pete's message for you?  "After watching my parents dedicate themselves to the Farm and vision behind it, I couldn't help but feel that my purpose on Earth is to help Flamig Farm evolve to its best potential.  As the 5th generation farmer, I feel very honored."

Chadam (15 years old) is a freshman in High School in the Suffield Regional Agriscience Center.  At the Farm he:
-is in charge of “Evening Chores” which includes making sure all our farm animals are tucked in safe and sound every night,
-leads Farm tours and gives talks about all aspects of Farm activities and Farm life,
-is learning carpentry, plumbing, and vehicle skills including driving and maintenance.
Those who know him say he has a heart of gold when it comes to concern for animals and is keen on researching almost anything but especially animal topics.  Talk with him, and you will come away with at least one new and amazing fact.

Chadam's message for you?  “The Farm has such a legacy! I am glad to be part of one of the few family businesses to be handed down from generation to generation. I’m excited to be part of the future and continue to help the farm prosper.”

Julie and I feel so blessed to have both Pete and Chadam helping Flamig Farm grow. There’s something magical about having people “pulling together” with a common effort.  A horse, if hooked to a load, can pull a certain amount. If you hook two horses together they can pull not just twice as much but more than two and half as much.  And there’s something to be said about family teamwork

Toddlers on the Farm
Good news, there is still room in our May classes.
-Two and three year-olds attend with a caregiver for a morning of farm fun. Each session includes some craft and activity time, a circle with story and songs, a visit with one of our animals and a pony or hayride. Admission to the petting zoo is included so you can enjoy the farm more before or after your session.

-Four and five year-old children have a fabulous time exploring the farm more in depth as we focus on a different animal each week. Our time together will include a craft or activity, farm chore, visit with the animals, story and song time and lots of fun! Children may attend without a caregiver, but caregivers are welcome.

Is it possible to have too much fun?

Want to have a joyful moment and even share smiles with friends?  Come for a Farm visit and pose in our new Adirondack chair.  Yes you have to climb a bit to get into it, but the view is great and so are photo opps.
Happy thoughts!
Here is an octet of "Wow, I didn't know."
