Subject: October is SPOOKtacular on the Farm

Spooktober

is here!

Greetings everyone from the gang at Flamig Farm,

Overall we’ve had a wonderful year this year! We finished up summer camp and then Nevin Julie, Pete, and Chatham, other family Members, and some friends, got to spend a little vacation time on Spencer Bay Moosehead Lake Maine. Huge thanks to our incredible staff for “Holding down the fort” and giving us the opportunity to get away for a while! We hope to get back to Maine (To quote Carly Simon”) “for a total eclipse of the sun” that is passing that area on April 8 next year.

We’re sorry to report that birthday party packages for this year are totally sold out. Almost every weekend in September and October we have weddings at our beautiful venue way out on the “back 40." We are presently booking for next year with some dates still available, so if you’re thinking about looking into a beautiful wedding under a tent, give us a call.

Coming up soon is our Haunted Halloween Walk-through. A scary walk through our petting zoo. You can find information on our website. The dates will be Friday and Saturday nights October 20 & 21, and October 27 & 28 with Sunday nights as potential rain dates.

In December Santa And Mrs. Clause, along with the Grinch, Frosty, and several elves are coming back to Flamig Farm again this year. Due to the popularity of this event we will be offering three weekends this year instead of only two. The event is From 9:30 till 12:30 on Saturday and Sundays December 2 & 3, 9 & 10, and 16 & 17. Tickets for both The Haunted Halloween Walk-through and the Visit with Santa are limited and we have sold out in the past so we recommend booking sooner than later so you don’t miss out.

Where has the year gone???? It’s hard to believe but we’re starting to plan for summer camp 2024. Sign-ups for summer camp will be available online beginning on December 1st. Again be forewarned that this does tend to sell out well in advance.

We feel incredibly blessed and honored for all of your continuing Support of Flamig Farm. Thank you thank you thank you and we wish all the best to you and yours!

With Love from,

Farmers Pete, Chadam, Julie and Nevin

Come and enjoy our healthy farm dirt!

According to what’s known as the 'hygiene hypothesis,' today's homes are overly sanitized, meaning kids aren’t getting exposed to enough germs when they’re young. When a child isn’t exposed to bacteria, their immune system isn’t trained to fight off infections and disease.

So while our homes and hands should always be clean, excessive cleanliness can actually contribute to allergies and more illnesses. In fact, studies have shown that infants who are exposed to household bacteria and pet dander are less likely to suffer from allergies and asthma.

Letting your child play outside and be exposed to diverse microbes from people, animals, and nature is vital to the development of a healthy immune system. It helps their bodies build a healthy balance of microbial flora in the gut and respiratory tract.

And here is something to seriously think about: of all the many ways the teeming ecosystem of microbes in a person's gut and other tissues might affect health, its potential influences on the brain may be the most provocative. Now, a study of two large groups of European scientists has found several species of gut bacteria are missing in people with depression.

Looking for something that could link microbes to mood researchers found, for example, that the bacteria Coprococcus seems to have a pathway related to dopamine, a key brain signal involved in depression. The same microbe also makes an anti-inflammatory substance called butyrate, and increased inflammation is implicated in depression.

Linking the absence of the bacteria to depression "makes sense physiologically," says Sara Campbell, a physiologist at Rutgers University in New Brunswick, New Jersey. Still, no one knows how microbial compounds made in the gut might influence the brain. One possible channel is the vagus nerve, which links the gut and brain.
