In a traditional job role to get a pay rise, you have to jump through more hoops than a circus clown.

First, you need to book a meeting with your master. To which they respond.

"I'm pretty busy at the moment, what is this regarding?"

Your palms are sweating and your heart rate is elevated as you respond...

"Due to the current cost of living crisis I'd like to discuss my current compensation"

You hear nothing back.

Depending on the size of the company they probably went to THEIR master to bytch about you. Then met with HR to figure out how to tell you you ain't getting jack shyt in the best legalese corporate speak.

When they finally respond to schedule the meeting it's at the most inconvenient time for you.

Every day leading up to the meeting, you feel like your master is giving you the cold shoulder.

(They are.)

Finally, the moment of truth.

Meeting day.

You walk in but before your butt cheeks acclimatise to the temperature of the chair your pay rise proposal is rejected.

It was rejected quicker than the pimple-faced nerd with BO and bad breath asking out the high school prom queen.

You take it on the chin because you and your master both know you have no choice.

You thank them for their time then walk out with your tail snuggly tucked between your legs.

Ouch!

Now.

When I want a pay rise here's what I do.

I calculate how much more my business needs to earn to be able to pay myself the increased amount.

I then put a plan in place to achieve that number.

It's as simple as that.

I own the hoops so I don't jump through them.

I may not get there as fast as I'd like but the point is, it's all in my control. I don't have to beg another person for my livelihood.

Every increase (or decrease) in pay is on me.

This life is not for everyone but I would not have it any other way.

It's exciting. It's Challenging. It's fun.
