I love the above metaphor.

It's the same as:

"one bad apple can spoil the whole bunch"

But I prefer the rat one.

Why?

Because of the image, it paints in your mind.

In your mind's eye, you can see a rat squatting over your freshly cooked porridge pot and dumping a nice long steamy turd in it.

It makes it more memorable.

It's one of the things I enjoy about writing.

It can make you feel something or see something.

All with words on a page or screen.
