Neil Theise will discuss his book, "Notes on Complexity - a Scientific Theory of Connection, Consciousness and Being." This electrifying introduction to the science of how complex systems behave provides insight into everything from the permeable boundaries of our bodies to the nature of consciousness.

Learn how bears have become victims of misunderstandings, fueled by media, literature, and word of mouth. This program will focus on the American black bear, Connecticut’s only resident species in the wild.

Emann Odufu, the curator of the current exhibit “Rainbow in the Dark,” will be in conversation with moderator Georgina Johnston-Watt, who has worked in editorial, production and research positions within the art and fashion industries across London and Paris. Odufu is an art activist, filmmaker, producer, screenwriter and digital media specialist best known for his work that explores the genre of Afro-Futurism within black cinema. A 30-minute concert by rock band Darling will round out the evening.

In this lecture, ArtScapades gives a well researched, illustrated presentation of artists, artwork & their social milieu. Explore the history of women in art, and how that history laid a foundation for future women artists in the twentieth century and beyond. Included will be a look at the lives and works of Georgia O'Keefe (1887-1986), Joan Mitchell (1925-1992), and Helen Frankenthaler (1928-2011).

These are questions that will be consider, inspired by the fabric collages in Amiri Hangami's exhibition "A Homage to Home." Join Aldrich Educator Barb Jennes and fellow writers as they plumb the deep well of memory, returning with poetry and prose.

Textile curator Susan Jerome talks fashion history from Jane Austen to Downton Abbey (1775 to 1925). Jerome is the Collections Manager at the University of Rhode Island Historic Textile and Costume Collection, and the Curator/Registrar of the Historic Costume Collection at the University of Connecticut. Tea and refreshments will be served.
