Westport Museum for History & Culture

A Live discussion with author Anne Perkins, the Connecticut Book award-winning author. Delve into the true story of the women who broke the gender barrier at Yale College in 1969. Along with Perkins, speakers include Connie Royster and Andrea Da Rif (Yale Class of 1973, Staples High School graduate). Registration required.

ANNUAL JULY 4TH BIKE PARADE

 

MON JULY 4, 10AM

Pequot Library, Southport

Start at the Five Corners in Southport Village with decorated bikes, scooters, and wagons, and parade down Pequot Avenue to arrive at the Great Lawn of Pequot Library where you will enjoy face-painting, hula hooping, bubble gum contests, and crafts. Food trucks, ice cream and drinks will be available. This is a free, weather-permitting community event.

4TH ANNUAL READING OF THE DECLARATION OF INDEPENDENCE


MON JULY 4, 10AM

The Stamford History Center

The History Center’s own Rick Petersen will once again recreate the atmosphere of 1776 Stamford in proclaiming the words of the Declaration from the steps of Stamford’s oldest house. This year includes readings from other documents reflecting multiple voices seeking justice and equality for all peoples.

INDEPENDENCE DAY CELEBRATION


MON JULY 4, 1:30PM

Mill Hill Historic Park, Norwalk

This annual free event opens with the “Let Freedom Ring” Bell Ringing Ceremony when the Town House bell will toll 13 times to commemorate the founding of the original 13 colonies. Norwalk's Mayor Harry Rilling will take part in the ceremony and selected sections of the Declaration of Independence will be read by Norwalk’s Town Clerk, Rick McQuaid. The National Anthem will be performed by BMHS alumni, Bill King.
