SPOTLIGHT on

Workshops and Classes

BEGINNING WATERCOLOR CLASSES

WED Apr 17, 4:00 pm - 7:30 pm

Greenwich Art Society

To start you off on the right footing and avoid the mistakes so many watercolorists face, you will find the principles of watercolor painting to be the most targeted and focused on this class. The first and most pressing to acquire are Values, Colors, Materials, and Basic Techniques, all of which we tackle with the spirit of a ballet dancer's moves.

POETRY WORKSHOP

FRI Apr 19, 6:00 pm - 12:00 am

MoCA Westport

April is National Poetry Month, and Westport’s Poet Laureate, Jessie McEntee. During this one-hour meeting, she’ll lead you through a generative workshop inspired by the artwork at MoCA, and she’ll share some favorite ekphrastic poems. Leave with building blocks for a new piece and return with Jessie on the following Friday for MoCA Some Noise (April 26th at 6:30), an open mic that promises laughter and connection. Share the ekphrastic poem that you’ve had a week to polish, or any other piece!

THE ART OF CYANOTYPE

SAT Apr 20, 10:15 am - 1:30 am

Carriage Barn

Experiment and create prints on paper using the cyanotype historical photographic process. Learn how the non-toxic cyanotype chemicals react in exposure to sun/UV light to produce permanent, magical blue and white images. Use botanical specimens and common objects to produce one-of-a-kind compositions involving both random and intentional mark-marking.

MONOTYPE FIGURE DRAWING - LIVE MODEL

SUN Apr 21, 10:00 am - 4:00 pm

Center for Contemporary Printmaking

Participants will emulate the process of Degas by studying and printing from a live model. Nomi Silverman, artist and printmaker, will assist participants in creating monotypes from life. Explore the versatile nature of monotype by printing and reworking ghost impressions to achieve depth of color and composition. Oil and water-based printing are welcome.
