For Alissa Siegal, public art is a way to push back against grief and rage with the sheer joy of painting big and outdoors. When Alissa joined the Cultural Alliance of Fairfield County, a world of artists and opportunities opened for her. She was introduced to other CAFC members and became a teaching artist for the Aldrich Museum, an outreach artist for Silvermine Galleries, and an art mentor at local schools.
Alissa is dedicated to collaborative, innovative work that widens arts access. In partnership with fellow Cultural Alliance member Matt Conway and RiseUp Group, Inc., Siegal created a non-profit public art and youth mentoring project called Stamford Murals. Thanks to youth from CTMurals and Trailblazers Academy students, murals now grace areas in Stamford like the Boys and Girls Club and buildings owned by Wellbuilt. The duo has activated and energized the West Side of Stamford through mural festivals that include music, food, local art vendors, and a live mural painting competition.
Alissa hopes to expand public and collaborative artwork while fostering opportunities for other creatives, making it easy for local artists to transform neglected areas of the city and help make Stamford a destination for residents and tourists of Stamford to engage with public art.
