Known for the New Deal figurative murals he painted in the Stamford High School and a public housing project, Dougherty (1887-1974) was a renowned book illustrator, author and an important modernist artist. He was one of the first to paint abstract art, based upon the interactions of color (1913-20) and returned to abstract art in 1953. This exhibition shows 40 of these late abstractions from the estate of the artist. More... |
