Wilton Historical Society
Get into the Fourth of July spirit. Docents in Colonial dress will demonstrate Colonial activities, from firing Revolutionary War style muskets to spinning and blacksmithing. Kids can try spoke shaving, weaving, and flax-breaking. And there’s ice cream! The Historical Society will also debut a new exhibition: “Rebels and Redcoats: The Aftermath of the Battle of Ridgefield” accompanied by a new “History is Here” video by Associate Curator Nick Foster. A special Independence Day event: “Paths of Patriots.” Learn about Westport’s role in the American Revolution and other conflicts by visiting the gravestones of those who served. Even as you hear the story of colonists fighting for their freedom, you will also hear the stories of enslaved Africans, who chose sides - and fought for their voices to be heard. More... |

Sun. July 4, 10am - 12:30pm Pequot Library Southport
Talking Heads and Tom Tom Club drummer Chris Frantz leads the parade for the 3rd year running. The parade starts at the Five Corners in Southport Village with decorated bikes, scooters, and wagons, which then parade down Pequot Avenue to arrive at the Great Lawn of Pequot Library where kids and family can enjoy face-painting, sack races, hula hooping, bubble gum contests and crafts. Celebrate Independence Day with tours, music, games, — and primary source documents! Walking Tours every hour on the half hour will show how former residents of the Keeler Tavern site lived their lives, sought liberty, and pursued happiness.
