CREATE THE VOTE CT ARTS & CULTURE VIRTUAL CANDIDATE FORUM FAIRFIELD COUNTY Wed. Oct. 14, 5:30pm 6 Fairfield County Candidates Discuss How They Would Strengthen Arts & Culture Sector in CT
NORWALK, CT (October 12, 2020) - The Cultural Alliance of Fairfield County is presenting a virtual candidate forum, this Wed. Oct. 14, 5:30-6:30pm, featuring local candidates discussing the importance of the arts and culture sector in Connecticut and what they would do to help strengthen the sector.
The Connecticut Arts Alliance, a statewide non-profit organization that works to build political, financial, and grassroots support to ensure that arts are a vital part of life for everyone in Connecticut, has organized "Create The Vote," a campaign to focus attention on the importance of the arts and culture in the upcoming election.
Our newly-elected statewide representatives will have to quickly address complex issues facing the future of our state. They must understand that supporting and protecting the arts and culture sector is critical to rebuild our economy, revitalize our neighborhoods, and reimagine our way of life during and beyond the pandemic. Harnessing the power of the arts must be part of their plans for a resilient Connecticut.
The CT Arts Alliance sent out a questionnaire to all General Assembly candidates to answer. The Cultural Alliance of Fairfield County is following up that questionnaire with this forum in which six candidates will discuss their plans to strengthen the arts and culture sector in our state.
Five community representatives, including artists and leaders of arts and cultural organizations across the region, will introduce themselves and ask the candidates the questions.
Candidates in the Forum are: William Haskell (D, Senate 26), Anthony Hwang (R, Senate 28), Alex Kasser (D, Senate 36), Michelle Lapin McCabe (D, Senate 28), David Rutigliano (R, House 123), M. Patrizia Zucaro (R, House 143). |
| | | Create the Vote CT is a nonpartisan public education campaign to raise awareness and support for the arts among voters and candidates running for public office. CT Arts Alliance launched the first Create the Vote CT during the gubernatorial election in 2018 and inspired focus on the arts during Governor Lamont’s transition and helped stabilize statewide public funding for the first time since the Great Recession. The initiative was originally conceived and developed at MASSCreative, a state arts advocacy organization in Massachusetts. |
