Subject: It's Summer - Upcoming event and volunteer opportunities

EAT Foundation Update
May 22, 2019
Hello Friend,

One month until Summer (technically), but it certainly feels like the season has already arrived. (Temperatures in the 90s have us looking for any excuse to cool off with a cold drink.)

Over the past several months, we've been recalibrating, so to speak, and focusing much more on our work within Richmond's nonprofit community, rather than our pop-up events.

In fact, we recently provided vouchers for a 8 person catered dinner, and two tickets to any EAT event, to Richmond Friends of the Homeless 'Party with a Purpose' silent auction fundraiser. -- We were extremely grateful and humbled to learn that our contribution drew donation support for the event to the tune of ~ $3,000.

Outside of our collaborations and work with other Richmond nonprofits, we do have a couple of events coming up this summer, however, as well as a few volunteer opportunities of our own!

Those events and opportunities are detailed below. If you have any questions about any of EAT's plans for the coming months, or simply want to learn about EAT more generally, or even just say hi, please feel free to drop us a line.

You can send any questions or comments to zachary@eatogether.org
Shakespeare Festival
For the second year in a row EAT will be participating in Richmond's annual Shakespeare Festival, put on by Quill Theatre and Agecroft Hall & Gardens.

Last year we had an absolutely outstanding time, and this year on Saturday, July 6 we are hoping to repeat our success.

Tickets for the dinner are $80, which includes a three course tasting menu including wine pairings, a welcoming cocktail, and specially reserved seats for the performance following our meal.

Just like last year, the performance will be The Complete Wrks of Wllm Shkspr, a comedic rendition of Shakespeare's "Comedies, Histories and Tragedies in one wild night that will leave you breathless and helpless with laughter."
Community Liaison
EAT has spent a great deal of time and effort putting together a culinary & nutritional "curricul-yum" to reinforce cooking skills and healthy eating habits in our community.

Now, we need your help in order to ensure the  "delivery" and success of this program! We are looking for a community liaison to work with EAT, and help us continue developing/sharing  ideas about how food can be used as a way to communicate with as many community members as possible.

The time commitment/responsibilities of this volunteer position are extremely flexible, and will be developed over time. We are anticipating that this will be an iterative process, so -- if you're interested in learning more, please send an email to zachary@eatogether.org and we will set up a time to discuss with you!
Looking Ahead
As we look ahead into the future, we are invigorated by the potential that exists within our community to become a model of food-equity and sustainable practices. That doesn't happen overnight, however, and will take a great deal of collaboration, effort, and commitment.

Thank you, Friend, for being one of the community supporters who will ultimately make this goal a reality. Food is often the last thing you remember and the next thing you think about; we believe that this universal "item" can be used as a tool to build stronger communities, teach important skills, and feed both people and passions throughout one's life.

Best for a great end of May,
Zach McElgunn
