Everyday Salt

Summer days are the perfect time to get into this American made product

Salt is vital

Salt in its natural state without having its trace minerals removed, is a vital composition of many minerals that are involved in many major processes in our bodies such as brain and hormonal function.

Sodium is also one of the major electrolytes along with

its partner mineral, potassium.

We are taught to stay hydrated and drink plenty of water. The fact is, if we don’t replenish the electrolytes while drinking water, we are flushing out our electrolytes.

Being deficient in electrolytes can cause problems throughout the body, especially during high activity in warm temps.

Electrolyte loss is much more prevalent in the warmer months and one should increase intake during these times.

Sources

Instead of going on a low salt diet, try going on a good salt diet. Look for a natural, unprocessed sea salt. These healthy salts contain many other necessary trace minerals and may not be listed on the ingredient list.

My favorite is Redmond salt. I like the fact that it is American sourced from Utah. Other types of natural salt labels to look for: Himalayan pink sea salt, Celtic sea salt.

Some salts labeled as sea salt or Himalayan sea salt may not always be the real thing and could be a mix of sources of salts. With Redmond, you know what you are getting.

Most soft fruits contain the perfect ratio of potassium to sodium and can also be included in your re-hydration protocol.

Ever tried Redmond salt on melon?

Most salt is geologically similar in that it came from ancient seabeds. It is what happens to it after that is what is important.  Some commercial salts go through a heating and de-mineralization process to keep it from absorbing moisture and making it pure white.

Processed salt is like eating processed food which is not in your best

interest.
