DULUTH ART CHAT
GREETINGS Art Enthusiasts!

We hope that you have enJOYed 2018 beyond measure! Hope all have had a wonderful holiday season and excited about what the NEW YEAR will bring!

The Duluth Public Art Commission (DPAC) has been very busy this year. “Phase I” of our mural projects included “Dream Big” by Brenda Ehly on Hill Street in downtown Duluth and the “Cosmic Tunnel” by Dylan Ross in Bunten Road Park. The third mural project, “Duluth Identified,” was started in November by Katie Burke on Peachtree Industrial Blvd, along the southbound side. You’ll certainly know you’re in Duluth when you pass that way! Look for completion in January/February, weather permitting. Sneak peak below!

The GIFT of music? If you (or the children) didn’t get that drum set, guitar or piano for Christmas, no worries! Another exciting interactive art initiative was recently approved by the City. This larger-than-life musical instrument experience, “Melody Lane,” will be installed at WP Jones Park near the playground. It will surely inspire and entertain musical prodigies of all ages! Look for installation by March 2019; grand opening information will be announced.

Once again, we are thankful for our Public Art Partners. DPAC recently received a donation from Truck & Tap in downtown Duluth. One of the newer businesses open on Main Street, T&T provides a unique dining experience daily and frequent rotation of the flowing taps! The MAGICAL projects you see happening all around us would not be possible without the generosity of the development community and private sponsorships.

From all of us DPAC, have a WARM and safe holiday making wonderful memories. Remember, our meetings are the 2nd Wednesday of every month at 6:30 in the community room of City Hall – next meeting January 9, 2019. All are welcome - drop in and sit a spell with us!
The Public Art Commission meets 6:30pm on the second Wednesday of every month at Duluth City Hall; all meetings are open to the public. Join us to hear about our recent successes and generate new ideas for future projects. We appreciate our volunteers, and hope that keeping people more informed leads to opportunities for engagement, whether by submitting ideas to DPAC, working hands-on via a project sub-committee, or just connecting with other “artful” folks in the community.
