Subject: My New Film "The Last Days of Capitalism" Playing Phoenix Film Festival

LDC Graphic
Hello Phoenix Film Festival Friends,

I know it's been ages since I've reached out to you. Since DriverX made it to Hulu last year, there hasn't been much to write home (or you) about. And if you weren't aware that DriverX was on Hulu, then yes, it is! Check it out or watch it again--Leonard needs the tips!

I'm writing you today to let you know about my new film called The Last Days of Capitalism, which will be playing the Phoenix Film Festival in the coming days. Since that's where I met you, I hope you'll get a chance to see it, if you're venturing out of your homes these days. More on that in a sec; first, a bit about the film...

The Last Days of Capitalism is another micro-budget (though with a much smaller budget than DriverX), written and directed by Adam Mervis. Adam is an up-and-coming Hollywood screenwriter who wrote the screenplay for the Chadwick Boseman crime thriller 21 Bridges, which was released worldwide last year. Last Days is an entirely different film--an intimate character drama with just two actors.

A wealthy man is holed up in a penthouse high above the Las Vegas strip when…he meets a mysterious woman. The two embark on an emotional and intellectual roller coaster that asks us to consider much more than just sex high above the glitter of neon lights. It stars veteran actor Mike Faiola (from MTV's Awkward) and shining newcomer Sarah Harper in the two roles.

We world premiered earlier this year at the Cinequest Film Festival, and then were immediately shut down by COVID. Since then, we've been kinda playing film festivals virtually. These have been uncharted waters, for sure.
PFF Laurels
In April, we played the Kansas City Film Fest virtually and were thrilled to win two awards:  Audience Award for Best Narrative Feature and the Jury Award for Best Actor (for Sarah Harper). More recently, we won the Indie Vision Award - Breakthrough Achievement in Directing at the Twin Cities Film Festival.

And that leads us to Phoenix. The Phoenix Film Festival will not be virtual. They are actually holding in-person screenings at the Harkins, but with numerous protocols in place to make it safe. You can read about them on their website--it's pretty impressive. Unfortunately, none of us filmmakers will be there this time, which is truly a bummer since PFF is one of the best festival experiences there is for filmmakers. This is my 4th film to play there, so I'm speaking from experience.

Still, if you love cinema (and I imagine you do), and you've been stuck at home these last several months (and I imagine you have), and you dream of being in a penthouse in Las Vegas with concierge service, mask up and come out and see our film, if you feel comfortable doing so. Here are the details:

Thank you for supporting DriverX. I hope you get a chance to see my new film, and even more, I hope we can kick this virus' butt soon and get back to what we all love to do--being with friends and family and enjoying some good movies in a movie theater. I hope you're all well and are planning a safe holiday. Have a very Happy Thanksgiving!

Best,
Mark
