Dear DriverXers,
Do you smell it? It's the sweet smell of something cooking, something tasty and it's almost done! That's the smell of DRIVERX, which has been slow cooking in the crock pot for a long time, but it's just about ready to serve. So close, in fact, you can almost taste it.
Here's where things stand...we're spending this week on our final sound mix (pictured above), which we're doing over at a great place called Anarchy Post, which has done work on a bunch of great indie films over the years. By Friday we should have our sound finished.
Two weeks ago we nearly finished doing all our picture work, over at Different By Design, a great post production company I have worked with for years. Grading, or color correction, is where you play around with the picture to make it look just right. Even on a low-budget film like ours, shot with a $2,500 camera, we were able to do amazing things in that room. Make things brighter, darker, add contrast, change the colors and/or make them pop. It's very exciting to see footage that you've been looking at for 2 years finally come alive. Our colorist has worked on some great indie films, too, including the award-winning Tangerine, which was famously shot on an iPhone. Our film was a piece of cake compared to that! It's a testament to our cinematographer Daniel Lynn that the footage looks so good.

| So, I said nearly done because we're still waiting for a few visual effects shots to be completed, then we can cut those in and we'll finally have a finished movie.
But when can you see it, you ask? Well, the answer is...very soon. And very soon, I will be able to tell you all about that! |
| | BETTER KNOW A CAST MEMBER |
| So, last time you'll recall I introduced you to one of our amazing actors in the movie--Tanya Clarke. Today I'd like to tell you about another great actor who plays a very important role in the film.
DESMIN BORGES Playing the Role of TOM (a rider LEONARD creates a very special connection with)

WHY DOES HE LOOK SO FAMILIAR? |
| Well, if you're a fan of FX's TV series You're The Worst, now finishing their 4th season, then you'll recognize Desmin from his role as Edgar on the show. If you're a fan of Henry Barrial, then you'll recognize Desmin as Cousin Manny from our last film, The House That Jack Built. You may have also seen Des in Mr. Popper's Penguins, starring opposite Jim Carey; and the more recent feature film Carrie Pilby, starring with Bel Powley, Vanessa Bayer, and Nathan Lane. Desmin is a versatile actor who can play drama as well as comedy, and can do it all at the same time. He is absolutely hilarious in DriverX and has an especially good chemistry with Patrick Fabian.
|
| HIS START IN SHOW BUSINESS
Des split time between Houston and Chicago growing up, and studied acting at the Theatre School at DePaul University in Chicago. "Got my 'start' when I won a lip sync contest at the age of 5. I was lip syncing La Bamba. After that there was no stopping me ;-) First professional gig was a traveling educational children's show when I was 19 years old. My circuit was Illinois, Michigan, North and South Dakota and Nebraska...I almost got killed in South Dakota, but that's different story for a different time ;-) "
CAREER HIGHLIGHT
In addition to his role on You're The Worst, which he says is the greatest on-camera opportunity that he's ever received, Desmin credits the play The Elaborate Entrance of Chad Deity as by far his greatest artistic achievement. "It was a 2010 Pulitzer Finalist that was a massive hit in Chicago and quickly moved to 2nd Stage in NYC. Without this project who knows where the hell I would be right now. Seriously."
HIS FAVORITE THING IN THE WORLD
"Food, food, my son, my wife, food, food, pick up basketball, food, food, cheeseburgers, ice cream sammies, homemade pasta...and FOOD!" And just like his character Edgar, Des is an accomplished chef. Good thing! |
| | | MORE VIDEOS
As you can see, I shot an interview with Desmin that I will be cutting up into several short videos, like I did with Patrick. Stay tuned for that.
As for the Patrick interview, I've cut a bunch of short videos, organized into several areas of discussion. The general series of videos is called Patrick Fabian Talks About... Within that series, there are several videos in each of these categories:
Patrick Fabian Talks About...Shooting DriverX Patrick Fabian Talks About...Better Call Saul
Patrick Fabian Talks About...The Last Exorcism
Patrick Fabian Talks About...A Career In Acting
Etc.
Here's another sneak peek of one of those, with Patrick talking about his real-life experiences using Lyft. |
| | | | I'll be back in touch very soon to give you big news on the film. Until then, like I always say, please follow us on our social media pages.
Best, Mark
