Focused & Balanced

In order to live a more healthy and fulfilled life, it’s important to keep a balance.


This means having to put attention on various aspects of life (for example: friends; family; finances; health; faith; career; fun; and self-growth). This can be a challenging task at times, as the many facets of life can appear to be a never-ending ‘to do’ list that becomes overwhelming. Unfortunately, this overwhelm often leads to not taking any action at all. The key to keeping the balance is total focus. Not everything is going to ‘get done’ every day and that’s okay. (Side note: That’s a nice rhyme and could be good daily mantra.)


What really matters is all that really matters... in the moment... for whatever you are focusing on. Using ‘focused time blocks’ can be a great strategy. I like to call this ‘focused momentum’ or ‘FOWMTM’ (which stands for: Focus On What Matters The Most). If you stay focused for set amounts of time, it’s amazing what can get accomplished, and not at the expense of feeling overwhelmed. People who are most productive use ‘focused time blocks’ wisely.


Being busy is not the same as being productive. ‘Being busy’ often just leads to distraction and at the end of the day, although the mind feels satiated, the spirit is often starving — because what really mattered did not get accomplished. If not corrected, life can feel like a skipped record playing over and over again. If you need some ‘down time’ or ‘browse time’, then schedule it. Make this also a ‘focused time block’ so you can get what is needed, but not waste extra valuable time that could have been put to better use in another time block.


Here’s a simple 3-step plan for building more FOWMTM:


Step 1. Plan 

Schedule on paper, not in your head, some ‘focused time blocks’.


Step 2. Implement 

Take ‘focused action’ on what is scheduled in your time blocks.


Step 3. Repeat 

Keep repeating this process over and over for long-term success.


*Note: If your schedule gets disrupted for some good reason, just remove or reorganize some of the ‘time blocks’ for the day so you can quickly return back to a focused, productive, and more fulfilling life.

Woodstock Update



Well... the 2024 Woodstock Fruit Festival Event has already SOLD OUT at this time.


If you still want to come, you can try to contact the organizers and ask to be put on a ‘wait list’. This should be an EPIC event for sure!


I have been invited back as one of the key presenters; and I’m looking forward to serving the ‘high vibe fruity tribe’ that is often present at this event. The festival has found a new home (called: H’Om) in South Florida, which looks very promising.


If you are into plant-based eating, high vibe people, and taking your health to a new level, this event could serve you well. Days are often filled with delicious nutritious food and beverages (such as: sugarcane juice, fresh young coconut water; amazing exotic fruits and veggies; and other plant-based delights; daily exercise classes; meditation, yoga, Qigong; dance parties; fun nature hikes; play-time in the water (this year will be a fresh lagoon with waterfalls; and some beach time); social gatherings, fun games, and activities; and empowering educational opportunities (workshops, classes, and lectures) that can improve your overall health and well-being.

'Hoku' Point


There are many potent acupoints in the body that can help to rebalance and re harmonize the flow of vital life force energy (also known as “Qi” — pronounced “Chee”). Always remember: “When Qi flows, then health glows.” One such point is Large Intestine 4 or Li 4 point. (also known as: ‘Hoku’, ‘Hegu’, ‘Joining The Valley’, or ‘Letting Go’.) This is probably one of the most well known acupoints.


Important Note:  This point should not be used during the early pregnancy period when labor is not desired or indicated, as this point can help to induce labor. As such, In the later pregnancy period and/or during the birthing process, when labor is desired, this point may become quite useful.


Overall this point is a good point for:

  • General relaxation (and de-stressing) 

  • Full body pain relief (and as an anti-inflammatory)

  • Overall well-being

  • To combat: colds/flu

  • Head congestion

  • Arthritis

  • Tooth pain

  • Pain in shoulder; jaw; face; neck; belly regions

  • Headaches

  • GI problems (gastrointestinal)

  • Hot flashes

  • Sinus pain

  • Nosebleeds

  • Constipation

  • Releasing toxins

  • Hangovers

  • Allergies/decongestant (‘antihistamine point’)

  • Emotional stress or repression; Depression 

  • 'Letting go' and bringing yourself back to the present moment (acceptance and surrender)


Location of this point:

This point is located in the middle of the webbing between first finger and thumb (on highest point of muscle on the back of the hand when the thumb and index finger are held together). See picture above at the top of this section.

 

How to stimulate this point:

You can use your index finger an/or thumb to push gently into this point. Or, gently squeeze the point on each side and then lift this point upwards. Hold the pressure or gentle stretch of the point for 1-3 minutes as you breathe slowly through your nose down into your lower belly region. 


To be clear: 

Does pushing on this point make up for a lack of ‘healthy living’? Does it erase a person’s bad habits or poor health choices. Of course not. It can’t make up for those things! However what it can do is help to rebalance the disrupted energy flow in the body that these things caused in the first place.


The whole point of using this vital acupoint is to reestablish balance, harmony, and flow in the body.  It's not a substitute for healthy living, but rather a supplement for healthy living.


‘Breathing Well' = 'Health Transformation’



Breathwork is more than just breathing. Breathwork is about transformation. If you want true and lasting transformation in your health, learn to harness the power of your breath. It’s a ‘universal therapy’ – with various ways to breathe to bring about various changes in the body, heart-mind, and spirit. For example, each emotion is accompanied by a certain way of breathing. As such, as you change your breathing, you can better manage and self-regulate your emotions.


Breath is what gives us life. Each day, we can consciously ‘breathe life’ into us, or unconsciously drain life out. Breathing should be the ‘go to’ when feeling out of balance. It should be the first thought, not an afterthought. This means when you feel like something is not quite right, out of tune, or out of sorts, you should check in with yourself and your breath immediately. Ask yourself: “How’s my breathing right now?” Pay attention to what you notice and make any changes needed. Also, as you stay more in tune and connected to your breath, you will find that you don’t get out of balance as often.


It’s amazing what the breath will reveal if you’ll let it. It’s one of my favorite assessment tools when working with patients and clients, as it shows me so much about who a person is and why they are feeling the way they do. Restoring the breath back to a healthy pattern and rhythm will inevitably help them feel better quicker and allow a return to a higher quality of life.


There are many secrets and gems hidden within the breath. Harnessing it’s power will allow these secrets to be revealed and these gems to shine bright. It’s really intriguing that one of the greatest gifts in life is hiding literally right under our nose, and many people never realize it. Like most great truths, the breath is simple, profound, and everlasting.


Reminder: “How you breathe is how you live.”


Connecting with your breath for even just a few minutes a day can make a big difference in your health and your life.
