Subject: Dr. SAM: October Wellness Newsletter

Welcome to the October 2022 Edition of

Dr. SAM's Health, Healing, & Well-being Newsletter!

It’s hard to believe we are ending October already. Fall is in full effect — as the leaves are falling, the temperature s falling, the angle of the sun is falling (there is a good reason this season is called "Fall"). As I mentioned in last month’s Newsletter, the energy of fall is in a downward moving direction. This is a very important period to begin to settle and bring our awareness more inwards for a time of rest, reflection, and renewal.

Just as Nature let’s go and redirects it’s energy, we need to do the same if we wish to thrive well moving into winter, and then flourish again in the spring. Halloween is a time of “trick or treat”. As such, it’s wise to not 'trick' your body-mind-spirit (by living contrary to nature’s wisdom), if you desire the 'treat' of vibrant health and well-being.

Below, you can find the October 2022 edition of Dr. SAM's Health, Healing, & Well-being Newsletter to help keep you motivated and strong, and live with passion in the world!

May it serve you well. ❤️🙏☯️

Healiing On Point

There are many potent acupoints in the body that can help to direct, balance, and harmonize the flow of vital life force energy (also known as “Qi” (pronounced “Chee”). As I like to say: “When Qi flows, then Health glows.” One such appoint is ‘Large Intestine 4’ or LI 4 point (also known as: ‘Hegu’, ‘Hoku’, ‘Joining The Valley’, or ‘Letting Go’.) This is probably one of the most well known acupoints. You may have even seen, or heard of it before. This is the point located in the web spacing between the thumb and first finger.

So, what’s the big deal about this point?

Here’s what it can help with:

  • Important Note: This point should not be used during the early pregnancy period when labor is not desired or indicated, as this point can help to induce labor. In the later pregnancy period and/or during the birthing process, when labor is desired, this point may be helpful.

Overall this point is a good point for:

  • General relaxation (and de-stressing)

  • Full body pain relief (and as an anti-inflammatory)

  • Overall well-being

  • To combat: colds/flu

  • Head congestion

  • Arthritis

  • Tooth pain

  • Pain in shoulder; jaw; face; neck; belly regions

  • Headaches

  • GI problems (gastrointestinal)

  • Hot flashes

  • Sinus pain

  • Nosebleeds

  • Constipation

  • Releasing toxins

  • Hangovers

  • Allergies/decongestant (‘antihistamine point’)

  • Emotional stress or repression; Depression

  • 'Letting go' and bringing yourself back to the present moment (acceptance and surrender)

How to find the point:

This point is located in the middle of the webbing between first finger and thumb (on highest point of muscle on the back of the hand when the thumb and index finger are held together). See picture above at the top of this section.

How to stimulate this point:

You can use your index finger or thumb to push gently into this point. Or, you could gently squeeze the point on each side, and then lift it upwards toward the sky. Hold the pressure or gentle stretch on the point for 1-3 minutes as you breathe slowly through your nose, and down into your lower abdomen region. (Note: The thumb and first finger should be spread apart, not held together, when stimulating this point.)

Just to be clear:

Does using this point make up for a lack of ‘healthy living’? Does it erase a person’s bad habits or poor health choices? Of course not! It can’t make up for those things. However what it can do is help to rebalance the disrupted energy flow that these habits or choices caused in the first place.

The ‘whole point’ of using this ‘vital point’ is to reestablish balance, harmony, and flow of vital energy in the body, heart-mind, and spirit. Therefore, it acts more like a supplement, rather than a substitute.

Update: (Dr. SAM's Health & Healing Manual)

The newest edition of my ‘Health & Healing Manual’ should be available in November. I am currently getting the formatting and layout done, so that it can be Amazon ready as a hardcopy version. This process is taking longer than expected, but should be completed in the near future. Digital versions of the manual may also be available as well.

The first edition of this manual was completed in 2007 with the intention of helping people get optimal results when recovering from an injury or illness. The manual has gone through several revisions over the last 15 years, and this latest edition is definitely better than ever — as it will deliver clear guidance towards health, healing, and total well-being!

Again, I will keep you updated when the manual becomes available for purchase.

'Vitamin N’ Deficiency (A silent epidemic!)

Have you heard of Vitamin N before? It’s not a surprise if you haven't, because nobody seems to be talking about it — yet it’s one of the most important vitamins needed for vibrant health and well-being. In fact, it’s so important that if you are deficient in it, you will not only feel disconnected and lost, you will also probably never experience what it fully means to be human. For sure, this ‘nutrient deficiency’ has become a global silent epidemic!

Now, you may be thinking: “So, what is Vitamin N? Where do I get it? How much does it cost? How much do I consume? Come on Dr. SAM... tell me! Tell me now!”

Okay, calm down. I will give you the lowdown on this important nutrient.

What is Vitamin N?

‘Vitamin N’ = ‘Nature’

Where do you get it?

You get it outside in Nature.

How much does it cost?

It’s FREE! (Yet, very COSTLY, if you don’t consume enough of it.)

In a world that has become so distracted and preoccupied with techno gadgets, many people have forgotten about the ‘real internet’— the planet they live on — the Earth below, the sun above, and the wilderness all around. The greatest technology, the human body-mind-spirit is being neglected in the hopes of finding health and happiness on a screen. Well, you have think and live ‘outside the box’ if you want vibrant health and well-being. (It is interesting that these techno gadgets have screens that are ‘box-shaped’, and many people seemed to be trapped ‘inside the box’ all day long).

How much to consume?

As much as possible — by interacting with Nature. Putting your bare feet on the bare earth. Lying down on the ground and ‘looking up’ at the natural blue sky (instead of ‘looking down’ at the artificial blue light screen in your hands.

Take some natural baths, by allowing the sun to bathe your entire bare skin. Bathe in the forrest as well, allowing all the negative ions to supercharge you. Allow fresh air to help purify and bathe you also. Water bathing in the ocean, lake, river, or fresh water pond; or just taking a shower outside vs. inside can bring bathing to a whole new level. Burry your feet in the dirt, and allow the Earth to cleanse and ground you (gardens work very well for this). Do yard work — and stop calling it ‘work’. Call it ‘yard play’ instead. Go outside and play. The gymnasium is outside. It’s called a ‘work out’, because you are supposed to be working, playing, or exercising outside.

Wearing rubber-soled shoes (which act as insulators) all ht time, and overall lack of time outside, are two of the biggest reasons people don't receive their free daily dose of this Vital Vitamin!

Spending time in nature away from technology, and having whole days that are 'tech-free' (yes, it's possible!) are vital health practices.

“Disconnect from harmful tech!” should be the new health slogan!

Not all tech is bad, but it is when it comes at the cost of vital health, healing, and well-being — due to the addiction to it; as well as some of the dissonant frequencies and waveforms it exposes people to. Become addicted to Nature instead. Allow it’s harmonious flow and frequencies to penetrate deep into your being.

If you want good well-being, you have to be well

Part of being well is take your 'Vitamin N' every day — LOTS OF IT!

Butterfly-Pillow Strategy for Better Sleep

When it comes to vibrant health and well-being a good night’s rest is at the top of the list for sure. I get asked all the time: “Dr. SAM, what kind of pillow do you recommend?” My answer is: “One that supports the body correctly.”

I personally don’t always use pillows when sleeping, as I’ve refined my sleep process to not needing a pillow much of the time. However, since this strategy may not work for others, I would like to offer a simple and cost-effective strategy for improving your sleep.

Let’s call it: ‘pillow modification’, or ‘pillow transformation’.

Why transformation

You will be transforming your pillow into a different shape. The modification you are going to make to your pillow will be to turn it into a ‘butterfly shape’.  Symbolically, butterflies also represent transformation.

How to do it?

To make a ‘buttery pillow’, you will need a piece of string, twine, or cord. Take off the pillow case, and tie the string, twine, or cord around the middle of the pillow firmly. This will draw the edges of the sides of the pillow together, and give it a ‘butterfly shape’. Put the pillow case back on the pillow.

How to use it?

To use your butterfly pillow, just rest your head in the middle of it (which would be the body of the butterfly). The butterfly shape of the pillow naturally allows the edges of the pillow to fit comfortably around your shoulders, whether lying on your back or side. This prevents unwanted and unconscious bodily tension that may be generated during sleep in an attempt to try to keep the pillow ‘in place’. However, the form of this pillow has a natural ‘cut out’ for your head and shoulders that just allows the pillow to effortlessly stay in place instead.

Why to do it?

Pillows really should support one’s head, more than the neck region. However, many so-called ‘orthopedic pillows’ try to focus the primary support at the neck region instead, which often just ends up thrusting the head backward; opening the mouth; causing unwanted stress and strain; as well as promoting a mouth-dominant breathing pattern, which has it’s host of ill effects as well (as I have addressed in previous newsletters).

I’ve had many patients and clients over the years become thrilled to learn this simple pillow modification strategy. They often report back to me that it worked very well — and also worked even better than any of the very expensive therapeutic pillows they had purchased over the years.

The ‘butterfly pillow’ helped to positively transform their health. I hope this pillow allows your health to take flight in a positive direction as well.

If you decide to try it and it works well for you too, send me an email and let me know (Health@DrSamPT.com).
