Recently, I engaged in a 10-Day 'water fast'. This means no food (just water) for 10 days. Why? My body, mind, and spirit needed a 'reboot'! Fasting is a powerful tool to create this very reboot for sure.
During the fast, I received... many important lessons; significant insights; and 'Divine Downloads'. Since the fast, I have definitely had more clarity of mind, vitality of body, and purity of spirit! I feel like I've been 'cranked up' a few notches in my ability to 'consciously create', 'serve others', 'keep the balance and life', and just 'watch things magically unfold' each day!
When performed correctly, the practice of fasting can be very therapeutic. Fasting is a process that allows the body physiological rest (a state in which healing and repair can occur more efficiently). During a fast, energy that would be placed normally into digestion can be redirected to enhance the task of healing. In times of sickness and/or injury, other species in nature utilize the practice of fasting instinctively to allow their bodies to conserve energy and restore health and vitality in the quickest manner possible. If humans are willing to follow the same rules, they can gain the same benefits from fasting as other species do.
However, it’s important to understand the significant difference between fasting and starvation. Fasting is regenerative, whereas starvation is degenerative. Fasting promotes better health (as the body’s vital energies are being conserved while it lives off its surplus). Starvation promotes sickness (as the body’s vital reserves are being consumed without replenishment of proper nutrients to maintain normal physiologic functioning). With that being said, I am an advocate of fasting, not starvation!
It’s also important to understand that fasting encompasses more than just “not eating” (or eating very little). Fasting should be a form of 'TOTAL REST'. It requires 'taking a break' from a busy life. If a fast is going to be undertaken correctly, one will need to minimize and/or avoid continuing to work, exercise, or engaging in anything else that may be very stressful— as this can rob the body of the vital healing energy that the fast is helping to restore.
Fasting should be performed in a safe quiet place, and without distractions. If prolonged fasting for more than a few days is required, it should be done under the supervision of a qualified fasting professional.
In general, fasting doesn’t cure the body, mind, and spirit. It just gives us a better opportunity to reboot and cure ourselves — and the results can be vert significant, as well as very 'FAST'! (yes, pun intended).
