Note: Enjoy this recent update from the desk of Thomas Cowan, one of
the world’s leading holistic medical doctors. Dr. Cowan’s extensive
research, culminating in Dr. Cowan’s Garden,
“nutritionally powerful and playful vegetable powders,” is an
inspiration to those of us seeking to heal ourselves, or simply stay
healthy, in a society that has fed us a plateful of lies when it comes
to the curative potential of food as opposed to pharmaceuticals.]
We are happy to report that this week our Three-Beet Powder
is back in stock. Made from three heirloom varieties chosen for their
color, flavor and nutritional content (Detroit Red, Chioggia and
Golden), it’s one of our most nutritious, flavorful and versatile
powders.
I use Three-Beet Powder or Beet-Root Juice Powder
as a first-line treatment for high blood pressure. Consuming beets
daily raises the nitric oxide levels in the blood, which relaxes the
blood vessels. Blood flow throughout the microcirculation improves,
which then lowers the overall blood pressure. Improving the
microcirculation is a core principle of any healing system (i.e.,
massage, saunas and even ice packs).
In addition, beets are the
most robust source of a nutrient called betaine. The role of betaine is
to thin the bile and make it flow more easily. The way detoxification
works is that our liver “conjugates” toxins, and the bile shepherds
these toxins out of the body through the intestines.
This process
has been compared to bagging one’s garbage (conjugation) and taking it
out to the curb (bile flow). By stimulating bile flow, beets make sure
we are not living in a house that is overrun by garbage.
This aid
in detoxification supports healing as disease is largely caused by an
excessive toxic burden. Insofar as our bodies can clear these toxins,
our health will improve. The daily consumption of beets or beet powder
will help your liver and gall bladder become more efficient at
detoxification.
