Subject: Friend, here are the Pentecost Sequence prayers

Click and pray to the Holy Spirit during the Octave

Dear Friend,

Thank you for participating in the Novena to the Holy Spirit in preparation for Pentecost. What a blessing you are to our country, Church, and world!

We invite you to continue praying for the Gifts of the Holy Spirit between May 19 and May 25, 2024, during the Octave of Pentecost, which leads to the Feast of the Most Holy Trinity.

Take just a few minutes to pray the beautiful "Sequence," followed by the Act of Consecration to the Holy Spirit and Prayer for the Gifts of the Holy Spirit. As you know, the world desperately needs the Holy Spirit, so let's all call upon Him.

Click and pray with Dave and Joan, or read the prayers posted below. They are the same for each octave day. All is explained in the video message below.

Thanks so much! Dave and Joan

THE ANCIENT PENTECOST SEQUENCE

Veni, Sancte Spiritus,

Et emitte calitus

Lucis tuæ rádium

Veni, pater pauperum.

Veni dator múnerum,

Veni, lumen córdium.

Consolátor óptime,

Dulcis hospes ánima

Dulce refrigerium.

In labóre réquies,

In æstu tempéries

In fletu solátium.

O lux beatíssima,

Reple cordis íntima

Tuórum fidélium.

Sine tuo númine,

Nihil est in hómine,

Nihil est innoxium.

Lava quod est sórdidum,

Riga quod est áridum,

Sana quod est saucium.

Flecte quod est rígidum,

Fove quod est frigidum

Rege quod est dévium.

Da tuis fidélibus,

In te confidéntibus,

Sacrum septenárium,

Da virtútis méritum,

Da salútis éxitum,

Da perénne gaudium.

Amen. Alleluja.

Holy Spirit! Lord of light!

From thy clear celestial height,

Thy pure, beaming radiance give:

Come, Thou, Father of the poor!

Come, with treasures which endure!

Come, Thou light of all that live!

Thou of all consolers best,

Visiting the troubled breast,

Dost refreshing peace bestow:

Thou in toil art comfort sweet;

Pleasant coolness in the heat;

Solace in the midst of woe.

Light immortal! Light divine!

Visit Thou these hearts of Thine,

And our inmost being fill.

If Thou take Thy grace away,

Nothing pure in man will stay;

All his good is turn'd to ill.

Heal our wounds -our strength renew;

On our dryness pour Thy dew;

Wash the stains of guilt away:

Bend the stubborn heart and will;

Melt the frozen, warm the chill;

Guide the steps that go astray.

Thou, on those who evermore

Thee confess and Thee adore,

In Thy sevenfold gifts descend.

Give them comfort when they die;

Give them life with Thee on high;

Give them joys which never end.

Amen. Alleluia.

ACT OF CONSECRATION TO THE HOLY SPIRIT

On my knees, before the great multitude of heavenly witnesses, I offer myself, soul and body to You, Eternal Spirit of God.

I adore the brightness of Your purity, the unerring keenness of Your justice, and the might of Your love. You are the Strength and Light of my soul. In You I live and move and am. I desire never to grieve You by unfaithfulness to grace and I pray with all my heart to be kept from the smallest sin against You.

Mercifully guard my every thought and grant that I may always watch for Your light, and listen to Your voice, and follow Your gracious inspirations. I cling to You and give myself to You and ask You, by Your compassion, to watch over me in my weakness.

Holding the pierced Feet of Jesus and looking at His Five Wounds, and trusting in His Precious Blood and adoring His opened Side and stricken Heart, I implore You, Adorable Spirit, Helper of my infirmity, to keep me in Your grace that I may never sin against You. Give me grace, O Holy Spirit, Spirit of the Father and the Son to say to You always and everywhere, "Speak Lord for Your servant is listening" (1 Sam 3:10). Amen.

PRAYER FOR THE SEVEN GIFTS OF THE HOLY SPIRIT

O Lord Jesus Christ Who, before ascending into heaven, did promise to send the Holy Spirit to finish Your work in the souls of Your Apostles and Disciples, deign to grant the same Holy Spirit to me that He may perfect in my soul, the work of Your grace and Your love.

Grant me the Spirit of Wisdom that I may despise the perishable things of this world and aspire only after the things that are eternal, the Spirit of Understanding to enlighten my mind with the light of Your divine truth, the Spirit of Counsel that I may ever choose the surest way of pleasing God and gaining heaven, the Spirit of Fortitude that I may bear my cross with You and that I may overcome with courage all the obstacles that oppose my salvation, the Spirit of Knowledge that I may know God and know myself and grow perfect in the science of the Saints, the Spirit of Piety that I may find the service of God sweet and amiable, and the Spirit of Fear that I may be filled with a loving reverence towards God and may dread in any way to displease Him.

Mark me, dear Lord, with the sign of Your true disciples, and animate me in all things with Your Spirit.

In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit.

Amen.
