Deacon Leo Flynn: Why Go to Medjugorje?

He attended St. Margaret Mary parish school, Aquinas Institute and St. John Fisher College, both run by the Basilian Fathers, and Rochester Institute of Technology for his graduate degree.
He married his high school sweetheart, Helen Conway, on the Feast of the Queenship of Mary, Aug 22, 1970, and they had three children, of which two passed away shortly after childbirth. Today, the Flynn’s have their son Patrick, two grandchildren, and 4 ½ great-grandchildren.
Leo’s profession was leading Human Resources in large companies! Leo entered studies for the Permanent Diaconate in the Archdiocese of Washington in 1992 and was ordained in St. Matthews Cathedral on September 9, 1995. He served the Archdiocese with assignments at Our Lady of Victory Parish and the Shrine of the Most Blessed Sacrament for over 27 years. He currently serves in the Arlington Diocese at St. Patrick Church in Fredericksburg, Maryland. Leo’s ministries included not only Church ministries but also Fire and Rescue Chaplaincy for Sterling Fire & Rescue/Loudoun County Fire & Rescue for 18 years, hospice volunteer chaplaincy at Capital Caring’s Adler Center for 6+ years, and Chaplain with the US Secret Service for the past eight years.
If asked, Deacon Leo will tell you he’s had three girlfriends in his lifetime……..his mom, wife, and Mary, the Mother of Jesus.
Deacon Leo’s first pilgrimage to Medjugorje was in 1991, and he claims his life has never been the same since! He will soon return to Medjugorje for his eighth visit as he leads his sixth pilgrimage this May to what he calls “little heaven!” |
