Greetings in Christ!
May God grant that your zeal for the Catholic Faith increase from day to day. The fact that Jesus Christ is “the way and the truth and the life” (Jn 14:6) reminds us that our Faith, while primarily ordered towards the final goal of heaven, is very much concerned also about our life and responsibilities here on earth. Vatican II underscores the interconnection of our moral responsibilities as citizens of heaven and in this world:
"5. Christ's redemptive work, while essentially concerned with the salvation of men, includes also the renewal of the whole temporal order. Hence, the mission of the Church is not only to bring the message and grace of Christ to men but also to penetrate and perfect the temporal order with the spirit of the Gospel. In fulfilling this mission of the Church, the Christian laity exercise their apostolate both in the Church and in the world, in both the spiritual and the temporal orders. These orders, although distinct, are so connected in the singular plan of God that He Himself intends to raise up the whole world again in Christ and to make it a new creation, initially on earth and completely on the last day. In both orders the layman, being simultaneously a believer and a citizen, should be continuously led by the same Christian conscience.
7. The temporal order must be renewed in such a way that, without detriment to its own proper laws, it may be brought into conformity with the higher principles of the Christian life …" (Decree on the Apostolate of Lay People, Ch. 2).
In the recent national elections, serious questions have arisen regarding the legitimacy of the election process itself. Legal suits have been initiated demanding a redress of grievances; they claim that the regulatory laws themselves have been ignored or overridden, that thousands and thousands of illegal ballots were submitted and have been illegally counted, and that other forms of fraud have been committed, which may have seriously compromised election results. The common good of the country demands that all such serious doubts should be resolved for two major reasons:
1) so that the candidates duly elected by the will of the people actually take office; and
2) so that confidence of the nation in the integrity of the election process be restored and maintained.
These two goods are of such a universal nature that all citizens, regardless of party affiliation, should be sincerely concerned regarding their implementation.
Therefore, we encourage all our Opus Angelorum members to pray daily and assiduously that the verification process currently underway in this country be carried out in a just and transparent manner so that “justice and liberty” prevail for all. We encourage you to especially call upon the Holy Angels, who under St. Michael, the Prince of Heavenly Host, will help guarantee that Truth prevail, so that the kingdoms of this world be in harmony with the Kingdom of God in heaven. Through our prayers the angels are entitled to enter into more actively into the spiritual battles in this world.
Sincerely in Christ,
Fr. Ludwig Maria Oppl, ORC
