Dear Friend,
Autumn is upon us, and so are Ember Days!
Thanks to our DMFA team member Mary from Wisconsin, we were made aware of a traditional call to fasting each quarter of the year "for the various needs of humanity, especially for the fruits of the earth and for human labor, and to give thanks to [God] publicly.” (Universal Norms on the Liturgical Year and the Calendar, 45).
The Autumn Ember Days this year are Wednesday, September 22, Friday, September 24, and Saturday, September 25.
What's this all about and why these three days? In less than 10 minutes our good friend Fr. Donald Kloster explains. Hope you enjoy our little chat and will incorporate Ember Days observance into your spiritual action plan for our country. We need a good harvest!
Have a blessed Fast Friday and Ember Days! Joan
