Dear Friend,
Tomorrow is the first day of Lent, Ash Wednesday. Much of the world is celebrating Mardi Gras or Fat Tuesday, partying and feasting before diving into the Church's penitential season.
But did you know that today, the day before Ash Wednesday, is Shrove Tuesday, or the Feast of the Holy Face of Jesus?
If we are aware of both the practice and the purpose of donning our foreheads with ashes, we can understand that contemplating the Holy Face, beaten, battered, and scorned, is by far the best way to spend "Mardi Gras."
Our special guest for today's ZOOM prayer meeting, Don Nohs, will be telling us all about the Feast of the Holy Face, and tomorrow's guest, Fr. Donald Kloster will be adding even more to the discussion. |
