Rule of Thumb? Maybe Not
New rules have given councils the power to decided where, how often and when road signs, including speed should be used. This is to reduce the number of unnecessary road signs that are deemed to be distracting to drivers or out of date.

Do you use the ‘if there are lampposts and no signs it is safe to assume it is a 30mph speed limit and if there are no lampposts and no signs it is a national speed limit’ rule of thumb? The Councils' new powers could easily change the rule of thumb.  Click on the video above to be taken to the blog where I have done a very short bit of info about how this might affect us and our teaching of this rule of thumb.  At the bottom of the transcription you will also find a link to the government announcement.
