| Much has happened at City Hall over the last month, including Council approval of the Strategic Housing Blueprint and the release of the first draft of the CodeNEXT zoning map. Big challenges await as we prepare to select the new city manager, pass next year’s budget, and evaluate
all the changes proposed as part of CodeNEXT. As we work on each of these
issues, and all the rest that come before the Council, we will rely on an
engaged public to help guide our decisions and keep all of us accountable.

| | | | CodeNEXT Mapping Rollout Event
Last week, the City released the first draft of the CodeNEXT city-wide zoning map.
Council Member Alter and her staff will be attending the District 10 CodeNEXT mapping meeting
on Saturday, April 29th, from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. at Anderson High School. The meeting
is designed to educate you about what the map means and how you can provide
feedback on the changes it needs.
Compare the CodeNEXT map draft to the existing zoning
CodeNEXT is the proposed rewrite of the City’s land development
code. The code prescribes what can be built in the city and where, from large
multi-use developments to renovating your home. Over the next
year, the code and the zoning maps will receive intensive public engagement,
undergo changes, and come before the Council for a vote.
At
the meeting on the 29th, city staff will present
the draft zoning map, talk about the aims of CodeNEXT, answer questions,
and tell you how to provide input on how you think the CodeNEXT code
and zoning map should change.
Getting the code right is essential to ensuring Austin grows
the way the community wants. That will only happen when people get
involved and share their insights. If you want to help shape the future of our
city, please come out to this important event, and please share the flyer with
anyone else who will want to participate.

| | | Project Connect Surveys
Capital Metro has big plans for the future, and they want to know what Austinites need in order to get around town. Project Connect is the long-term transit plan for Central Texas, designed to address the transit challenges created by the greater Austin area's rapid growth.
The Project Connect team wants you to tell them where and how they should expand, as well as what enhancements are needed at existing stations.
Both surveys are available online and take just a few minutes to complete after registering an account.

improvements and any
future improvements to the parks.

| | | Panel and free lunch at the Alamo Drafthouse Ritz
The City of Austin is proposing to develop and implement a Street Impact
Fee Program. A street impact fee would be a charge assessed on new
development to pay for the construction or expansion of roadway
facilities that are necessitated by that new development. As we continue to see widespread development, a street impact fee could help us better adapt to the changes we see in our skyline and our neighborhoods.
Urban Land Institute Austin, in coordination with the City of Austin,
invites interested members of the public to a free lunch at the Alamo
Drafthouse Ritz location. A panel will discuss street
impact fees and the City of Austin's Street Impact Fee Study. You must
RSVP here if you'd like to attend. Space is limited, so don't wait.
Wednesday, April 26
11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.
Alamo Drafthouse Ritz
320 East 6th Street
