| | | What Age Do People Get Married in Your State?
With wedding season getting into swing, one will likely notice that trends and traditions vary greatly from wedding to wedding. One thing that we’ve been curious about is the age at which an average American will get married for the first time.
Are there regional or state influences? What seems like the right age for an average New Yorker might be way off for someone living in Idaho, for example. Whatever the explanation, be it religious values, state laws, cultural spirit, or a combination of the three, it seems that the “norm” really depends on where you live.

| | Marriage and The Baby Carriage
The National Campaign to Prevent Teen and Unplanned Pregnancy has some new data on teens' aspirations for marriage and childbearing. Check out their latest Survey Says and great infographics.
Here is the Reader’s Digest version!
Most teens still aspire to get married and most plan on having a child. IN THAT ORDER. However, teens seem more confident that they will get married than that they will become parents.

| | | | Masters of Love Science says lasting relationships come down to—you guessed it—kindness and generosity.
Every day in June, the most popular wedding month of the year, about 13,000 American couples will say “I do,” committing to a lifelong relationship that will be full of friendship, joy, and love that will carry them forward to their final days on this earth.
Except, of course, it doesn’t work out that way for most people. The majority of marriages fail, either ending in divorce and separation or devolving into bitterness and dysfunction. Of all the people who get married, only three in ten remain in healthy, happy marriages, as psychologist Ty Tashiro points out in his book The Science of Happily Ever After, which was published earlier this year.

| | Family matters: Links between family structure and early child health
This paper reviews the research of the past two decades that addresses the relationship between family structure and early child health outcomes. Specifically, we focus on family structure’s influence on child health during pregnancy, birth, and infancy. We briefly summarize the most pervasive changes to family structure in the US during recent decades and discuss how early child health is linked to future outcomes for children and adults. We review research that highlights the mechanisms linking family structure to early child health and identify key risk and protective factors for children from the prenatal period through infancy.
We conclude with a critical assessment of current policy efforts to strengthen families and make recommendations for how best to address this issue for America’s families going forward.
