Sexting may be the new "normal" but it definitely is not healthy. A study that explored the relationship between teenage sexting, or sending sexually explicit images to another electronically and future sexual activity found that sexting may precede sexual intercourse in some cases and further cements the idea that sexting is a credible sign of teenage sexual activity.

Bigger Weddings, Fewer Partners, Less ‘Sliding’ Linked to Better Marriages The more people who attend your wedding to share in the launch of your marriage, the better the chances you will have a happy marriage years down the road. And, counterintuitively, the more relationships you had prior to your marriage, the less likely you are to report a high-quality marriage. Those are two of the key findings in a new report, “Before ‘I Do’: What Do Premarital Experiences Have To Do With Marital Quality Among Today’s Young Adults?,” from the National Marriage Project at the University of Virginia.

Teen Pregnancy Prevention Funding Opportunities Forecasted for 2015 Recently the Office of Adolescent Health (OAH) and the Family and Youth Services Bureau (FYSB) announced forecasts about teen pregnancy prevention funding opportunities expected to be released in early 2015. Rigorous Evaluation of New or Innovative Approaches to Prevent Teen Pregnancy The Funding Opportunity Announcement will provide competitive funding to organizations to develop and rigorously evaluate new and innovative approaches to prevent teen pregnancy. |

Specific Funding Opportunity from FYSB for Florida, Indiana, North Dakota, Texas, Virginia, Guam, American Samoa, the Northern Mariana Islands, the Marshall Islands, and Palau The Administration for Families and Children (ACF), Administration on Children, Youth and Families' (ACYF) Family and Youth Services Bureau (FYSB) will be accepting applications from local organizations and entities, including faith-based organizations or consortia, for the development and implementation of the Personal Responsibility Education Program (PREP) in Florida, Indiana, North Dakota, Texas, Virginia, Guam, American Samoa, the Northern Mariana Islands, the Marshall Islands, and Palau. The purpose of this program is to support projects that educate youth, between the ages of 10 and 19 years, and pregnant and parenting youth under age 21, on abstinence and contraception for the prevention of pregnancy, sexually transmitted infections, and HIV/AIDS. Projects are also required to implement at least three of six adulthood preparation subjects.

Georgia Natural Gas Corporate Giving Program The Georgia Natural Gas Corporate Giving Program supports a wide range of nonprofit organizations in the communities throughout Georgia that the company serves. Grantmaking areas of interest include the following: children and youth services, education, senior services, energy assistance for consumers in need, environment and sustainability, and meaningful educational and cultural opportunities for the entire community. The Kerr Foundation primarily provides support to nonprofit organizations in Oklahoma; however, the Foundation also considers requests from organizations in the surrounding states of Arkansas, Colorado, Kansas, Missouri, New Mexico, and Texas, as well as organizations located in Washington, DC. The Foundation offers grants to organizations that provide new or enhanced opportunities, particularly for youth, which address the following areas of interest: education, health, cultural development, and community services. Grants generally range from $1,000 to $50,000. The application deadline for consideration at the March 2015 Board meeting is January 16, 2015. American Association of University Women Community Action Grants provide funds to individuals, AAUW branches, and AAUW state organizations as well as local community-based nonprofit organizations for innovative programs or non-degree research projects that promote education and equality for women and girls. Since the inauguration of the Research and Projects Fund in 1972, AAUW has provided support to hundreds of communities around the United States to advance education and equality for women and girls. Early projects focused on public interest issues, including women’s struggles to balance home and work life, the establishment of women’s resource centers on college campuses, and the emergence of women’s political involvement in the antinuclear movement. |

The AgStar Fund for Rural America is dedicated to promoting agriculture and rural communities, and to addressing the issues facing rural America. The Fund supports nonprofit organizations in the service area where AgStar has a significant business presence in Minnesota and northwestern Wisconsin. The Fund focuses its giving program in the following four major areas: education, environment, technology, and quality of life. Grants of up to $10,000 are provided for direct project or program costs. Online applications will be accepted from October 1 through November 30, 2014. Mary Reynolds Babcock Foundation The Mary Reynolds Babcock Foundation assists people in the southeast United States to build just and caring communities that nurture people, spur enterprise, bridge differences, and foster fairness. The Foundation is dedicated to helping people and places to move out of poverty and achieve greater social and economic justice. Grants are provided to local, statewide, and regional nonprofits in Alabama, Arkansas, Georgia, Kentucky, Louisiana, Mississippi, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee, Virginia, and West Virginia that work with people in low-wealth communities to shape their own destiny.
