Thank you for registering for our webinar on Teens and Pornography. Since so many people were interested in the studies behind the webinar, we have put together a document with a small sample of the research on the impact of porn.
As you are probably aware, there is still a lot of controversy in the field. However, as more and more studies are using sophisticated research tools, like MRI machines, the evidence is becoming much clearer that, on average, the violent type of porn that many teens are now consuming is having a negative impact on their attitudes, behaviors, brains, and bodies.
One thing we should all be able to agree on is that viewing pornography that promotes sexual violence against men, women, and children will not help teens to form healthy relationships and respectful attitudes towards physical intimacy. Unfortunately, this is the type of pornography that many teens are being exposed to. And it is the type of pornography that Institutional Review Boards (IRB) will never be able to approve for rigorous evaluations because of ethical considerations.
We hope you will join us in helping teens and young adults learn about the latest research on the impact of porn so they can decide for themselves if the potential risks of Internet porn are worth it. And, for those teens and young adults who are experiencing the negative impact of porn and are finding it difficult to avoid it, they need to be given hope that they can overcome their addiction and heal mentally and physically.
Thank you for all you do to help teens and young adults to learn the research-based skills and insights to form and sustain healthy relationships.
Please let me know if you have any questions.
