Dating Matters®: Understanding Teen Dating Violence Prevention Evidence-Based Curricula to Prevent Teen Dating Violence Dating Matters® is a free, online course available to educators, school personnel, youth mentors, and others dedicated to improving teen health. Follow a school administrator throughout his day as he highlights what teen dating violence is and how to prevent it through graphic novel scenarios, interactive exercises, and information gathered from leading experts. Children of Mothers with Adverse Childhood Experiences Show More Disruptive Behaviors Researchers have found a link between a mother's report of her own adverse childhood experiences and increasing disruptive behavior on the part of her own child up to the age of 4½ years-and marital conflict may be the pathway between the two.

Cohabitation and Intimate Partner Violence During Emerging Adulthood In recent years, a majority of young adults experience cohabitation. Nevertheless, cohabitation is a risk factor for intimate partner violence (IPV). This study found that socio-demographic characteristics, relationship commitment, quality, and constraints as well as prior experience with violence (in prior relationships and family of origin) were associated with IPV, but did not explain the association between cohabitation and IPV.

 Family Structure and Family Formation among Low-Income Hispanics in the U.S. There have been dramatic changes in the structure of families in the U.S. over the past several decades. Fewer couples are getting married, while more are cohabiting and having children outside of marriage. Additionally, men are increasingly fathering children with more than one woman (“multiple-partner fertility”). In particular, family structure among Hispanics—the largest and one of the fastest growing racial/ethnic minority groups in the U.S.—is less understood than that of some other groups. This is a critical knowledge gap, as Hispanics currently make up 17 percent of the U.S. population and 25 percent of children under age 18.

Healthy Relationships: In 2011-2012, 89 percent of adolescents ages 12-17 had at least one adult mentor-like relationship in their school, neighborhood, or community (according to their parents). The rate of bullying has not changed—20 percent of high school students reported being bullied on school property in 2013 and in 2015. Get more information on healthy relationship indicators among adolescents in the U.S. and in your state. Reproductive Health: The percentage of high school students reporting they ever had sexual intercourse fell slightly from 47 percent in 2013 to 41 percent in 2015. Fourteen percent of those who were sexually active reported not using any method to prevent pregnancy during their last sexual intercourse both in 2013 and in 2015. According to OAH, Love Notes is approved as an evidence-based program for the sexuality education portion of this grant.
