Karwa Chauth is a festival celebrated by women four days after Purnima (full moon) in the month of Karthika. Karwa is another word for “pot” (a small earthern pot of water) and Chauth means “fourth” in Hindi. On Karwa Chauth, women who are married fast from sunrise to moonrise for the safety and longevity of their husbands.
