Inflammation Post Day 4

Stress and environmental factors

As well as food, stress and environmental factors can also cause inflammation

STRESS is your body's way of responding to any kind of demand or threat. When you sense danger—whether it's real or imagined—the body's defences kick into high gear in a rapid,

automatic process known as the “fight-or-flight” reaction or the “stress response.” When this

happens stress hormones such as cortisol and adrenaline are released to help manage the

situation. Over time high levels of cortisol can cause inflammation.

There are lots of ways to reduce stress, this is a very simple mindfulness technique that you

can practice anywhere at any time.

Try this one very simple mindfulness activity.

Take Three Breaths

For as many times a day as you can, give your mind a short rest.
Become aware of your breath and for 3 breaths focus on your breath and ask your inner

voices to be silent. It is like turning off the radio or TV for a few minutes. Then open all your

senses and just be aware - of colour, smell, touch and sound.
At the end of the day, note down how many times you did this and any other observations

 about the practice.

Tip - I suggest using some reminders to do this - post it notes, an alarm on phone or another

 reminder that works for you.

How did you feel after doing this once? twice? More?

Essential Oils can be used to create a calming atmosphere and promote feelings of peace

and harmony. When you have had a long, stressful day, or when you want to combat anxious feelings, calming essential oils provide a quick, natural way for you to reduce stress. Some of the best oils for this are Lavender, Bergamot, Vetiver or Roman Chamomile. You can diffuse

these oils or apply them topically (diluted in a carrier oil) separately or in a blend.
