I still use the method all the time.
But I also realized early on that there are disadvantages of relying on just this method.
One of the main ones being that the people buying do not go on to your list; they go on to the list of the product owner.

Only by selling and creating your own products will you be seen as an expert in your field.
So to gain the reputation as a ‘real’ marketer it is essential you have products of your own that you can point at.
...and probably most importantly
To get a list of ‘buyers’ rather than just freebie seekers, you must have your own products out there.
Again if you wonder why a buyers list is any better than a freebie list, I’ll just say that buyers tend to buy, whereas freebie seekers tend to seek more freebies :)
