You Have Been Called! - Karen Pourbabaee
“Who saved us and called us with a holy calling.” 2 Timothy 1:9 RSVCE
Salvation and calling are a package deal. We were saved out of this world for a specific, divine calling. To call is to summon or appoint. That call is part of our destiny, so let’s examine what scripture tells us about God’s appointment for our lives.
Holy describes our call according to Paul’s letter to Timothy. Belonging to or devoted to God defines holy, therefore our endeavors for God, animated by our calling, should be wholly devoted to Him. Our calling also belongs to God; it’s His work merely entrusted to us.
Hope belongs to our call. God, in His goodness, would never summon us without instilling in us the hope that is needed to fulfill it. “May the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ enlighten the eyes of our hearts, that we may know the hope that belongs to our call.” Ephesians 1:18 NAB
Our call is irrevocable. Paul declared to the Romans, “For the gifts and call of God are irrevocable.” (Romans 11:29) It is never too late to discover and answer this appointment. Here Paul reveals another apparent package deal: we receive the gifts that accompany our call.
We must consider our calling once we have discerned it. We are reminded by Paul, “Consider your own calling, brothers.” (1 Corinthians 1:26) In considering, we think about it in order to make decisions, contemplate, and reflect. We must take seriously what has been entrusted to us.
Finally, we must walk in our calling. “I, then, a prisoner of the Lord, urge you to live in a manner worthy of the call you received.” (Ephesians 4:1)
This calling is a life-long journey, progressing step-by-step. Start walking in your God-ordained plan—you have been called!
