You Can’t Screw Up – Ken Ebright
“Love is patient and kind. Love is not jealous, it does not brag, and it is not proud. Love is not rude, is not selfish, and does not get upset with others. Love does not count up wrongs that have been done. Love takes no pleasure in evil but rejoices over the truth. Love patiently accepts all things. It always trusts, always hopes, and always endures.” 1 Corinthians 13:4-7 NCV
It seems like in this world, if you make a mistake with someone you love you can end up getting thrown under the bus. It appears that authentic love is often lacking on this sin filled planet, the 'world’s kind of love' too easily recalling wrongs. If you screw up – sadly the relationship quickly dissolves.
Sometimes it seems as if there’s no room to fix the problem or to work things out. It can be like an employment situation, where making a mistake on the job automatically gets you fired. But, since no one is faultless and we’re all prone to making mistakes, the truth is the boss is no closer to perfection than the employee.
In a sinful world, it's hard to be patient. When somebody hurts you, it’s challenging to be kind. My old self wants to justify itself and rehash the sins the other person has committed. At the same time, I don’t want to look at my own sins and admit to them.
That’s not how the Lord wants us to be. I admit it's hard to do, but we need to love that person because Jesus tells us to. We need to pray for them and for their well-being, even if we never get the relationship back. We are called to love and forgive others, not hate.
