Where’s Your Trust? – Lakella L. Davenport
“And the disciples were astonished at his words. But Jesus answereth again, and saith unto them, Children how hard it is for them that trust in riches to enter into the kingdom of God!” Mark 10:24 KJV.
Where is your trust? Is your trust in your possessions, your positions, your wealth, your job, your beauty, or your status in society? For the bible tells us, “Lay not up for yourselves treasures upon earth, where moth and rust doth corrupt and where thieves break through and steal. But lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust doth corrupt, and where thieves do not break through nor steal. For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also,” Matthew 6:19-21 KJV.
Don't be like the man in Mark chapter 10. He came running to Jesus and knelt before Him asking, “…Good Master, what shall I do that I may inherit eternal life?” Jesus said, “Thou knowest the commandments, Do not commit adultery, Do not kill, Do not steal, Do not bear false witness, Defraud not, Honor thy father and thy mother.” And he answered and said unto him, “Master, all these have I observed from my youth.” Then Jesus beholding him loved him, and said unto him, “One thing thou lackest: go thy way sell whatsoever thou hast; and give to the poor, and thou shalt have treasure in heaven: and come, take up the cross and follow me.” And he was sad at that saying, and went away grieved: for he had great possessions,” Mark 10:17-22 KJV.
How many of us would give up eternal life with Christ to hold on to material riches? If Jesus asked us the same thing today, could we give up all and follow Christ? I can sincerely say I would give up all in a second to spend eternity with Christ, my Lord and Savior.
Father God, I pray that we faithfully put our trust in you and not the things of this world.
