Unite My Heart – Jane H. Young
“Teach me Your way, O Lord; I will walk in Your truth; Unite my heart to fear Your name.” Psalms 86:11 NASB
David prayed to God asking Him to unite his heart. Seems a little odd request at first, but after giving it some thought I realized I too need to ask God to unite my heart.
Let’s look at exactly what ‘unite’ means: ‘To come together to form a single unit in interest, attitude, or action’ and ‘to join and act together in a common purpose or endeavor.’ In other words, our heart should be set on one purpose, and that is to walk with God in all we do, speak, and desire. When we let His Power rest in us and let His Peace flow through us, our heart will become united with only God’s ways.
Surrender every part of your life over to Him. Be single-minded in all you do, think and speak. Choose to worship Christ instead of worshipping your fears, cares, worries and concerns. Let Christ rule your heart. Let His Word rule and abide within its borders. As Christians, we should be able to look back and see a progression of growth in our daily lives. God’s Word is the instruction manual for how we should walk. We should recognize that anything that does not glorify our Father is the wrong path to take.
“Search me, O God, and know my heart; test me and know my anxious thoughts. Point out anything in me that offends you and lead me along the path of everlasting life.” Psalms 139:23-24 NLT.
Prayer: Lord, remove anything from my heart that offends You. Father, I choose to serve You. Help my heart be united in every way to follow where you lead me and not divided in a way that will take me down the wrong path.
