Trusting Our Father in Difficult Seasons
Lorraine Taylor
Romans 8:28 assures us, in all situations, even when you and I don't see it, we are secure in the Father's covenant promises, where his love, care, and passion are at work in 'adversity’ whether it’s physical injury, relational conflict, betrayal, incarceration, mental illness, chronic illness, the sudden death of a child, family estrangement, or a missing person.
In the questioning, in the concern, in the heartache, and frustration, we are guided by the faithfulness of the Triune One indwelling our human frailty. His spirit is drawing each one and us as a community nearer, closer, wider, higher, and broader within the personhood of the fellowship of His forever love.
Crying tears of unimaginable pain in the valley of suffering, we are pursued and led into our Father’s promised provision of comfort; velvety lush soft meadows, wildflowers dancing in the wind, streams of living waters etc., and it is in those places of hurting, each one of His children is intimately embraced (Psalm 23) within a spiritual cocoon.
Trusting God when we are pressed beyond capacity, beyond our strength, and beyond human knowing, (2 Corinthians 1:8) is the disciple’s necessary path towards steadfast faith. It is only with our unwavering surrender of that ‘thing’ that so troubles us, that His great assurance and tender caring passion are revealed in His peace that overcomes all understanding and circumstances, as we drawn ever so close upon the bounty of His immeasurable Grace.
As we intentionally turn towards the Father’s love, immersing mind/body/soul within the union of the Triune Spirit, we discover His highest desire is to transform us and our inordinate human emotional reactions (fears, worries, anxieties). His goal is to translate us into beloved compassionate people who bear His light, hope, and truth in the darkest of nights.
Prayer: Father, I don’t know the result in this darkness, but I surrender this ‘thing’, trusting in the faithfulness of your covenant promises. As I depend upon the empowering of my spirit by your Spirit, lead me through the valley of suffering into being the embodiment of Your compassion and love.
