Today is Christmas, Yet Christmas is Still Coming! - Sandra Fischer
But about that day or hour no one knows, not even the angels in heaven, nor the Son, but only the Father. Matthew 25:36 NIV
The Old Testament prophets told of the Messiah’s birth long ago and for years the people longed for His coming, although they knew not when. So many preparations were made in the hearts of those who believed the prophecies.
Today we celebrate that day when God came down from heaven and took on flesh becoming Emmanuel, Christ with us. During the current commemorative advent, we who believe in Jesus and have chosen to follow Him, have longed for this Christmas day to celebrate as millions have done year to year.
We filled our churches, worshiped through song and declaration, held pageants and parades. We adorned our homes with traditional decorations—lighted trees and wreaths. We prepared feasts to share with family and friends. We sent greetings and gifts to each other. And then. . . after today, we will put away the decorations, store some leftovers, trash the wrappings, and set our minds on other things.
Yet Christmas is still coming! Not the celebration expected 365 days away in the new year, but at an unknown time. Again, the prophets and Christ himself tell us He is coming—not as a child who went from cradle to cross to save us, but as the resurrected King come down from heaven to rule and reign!
Like people at the first Christmas, we do not know when. We are told to wait and watch. “Therefore keep watch, because you do not know the day or the hour.” Matthew 25:13 NIV
Lord, help us keep our hearts prepared for His glorious return! Christmas is coming!
