The Unseen Work - Karen Pourbabaee
“Unless the Lord builds the house…Unless the Lord guards the city…” Psalm 127:1 NAB
Psalm 127 is aptly titled The Need of God’s Blessing. This verse clearly reveals we labor in vain and watch uselessly, on our own. Verse 2 speaks of workaholic tendencies so rampant today—frantic actions of one who thinks it’s all up to him. We must realize and remember, as Paul says, “For every house is built by someone, but the builder of all things is God.” (Hebrews 3:4 NAS) That’s not just physical buildings, but faith, character, families, marriages, friendships, careers, ministries, vocations—everything!
Psalm 127:1-2 confirms to us that the Lord builds, guards, and gives. He is active in our lives whether we perceive it or not. He works behind the scenes. No matter what we are building, God is both the Architect and Builder of all. He alone is the Almighty Creator; we create nothing without His divine inspiration, guidance, and strength, His blessing must be upon our work, which is ultimately His work.
God is the Guardian of our lives—all of it! He keeps watch and protects us as well as all of our building projects as a Loving Father. “The Lord will guard you from all evil, will always guard your life. The Lord will guard your coming and going both now and forever.” (Psalm 121:7-8 NAB)
God is the Giver of all things; every gift is from above. (James 1:17). Never think you have worked so hard to achieve something. All is a gift from Him. We labor in thanksgiving and in honor of God who provides us with every spiritual blessing (Ephesians 1:3) and supplies all of our needs. (Philippians 4:19)
Unless the Lord builds, unless the Lord guards, unless the Lord gives—these phrases give us much to ponder. God’s Unseen Work abounds. Therefore, let us trust in Him and give thanks. Amen.
