The Road to Hope - Karen Pourbabaee
“May the God of all hope fill you with joy and peace in believing, so that you may abound in hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.” Romans 15:13 NAB
Hope begins with God. You can hang onto all kinds of “false hope” that the world may offer, but it will leave you disappointed. The hope that comes from God will not disappoint! (Romans 5:5) The saying is true: No God. No hope. Know God. Know hope. There is a special road to hope that’s been constructed in Romans 15:13. A road is a way of reaching something. Let’s walk the road to hope.
The Living Bible rewords Romans 15:13: “…God who gives you hope will keep you happy and full of peace as you believe…” Here, it’s made clear the road to hope starts with belief…note the ending phrase, as you believe. God can set us firmly on the road, but first, we must humbly believe. We must reach that enlightening point where our mustard-seed faith kicks in and begins to grow. To be real, hope must be based on faith.
As we journey, a transformation begins to occur. We are filled with joy and peace in our believing. Hopelessness becomes a thing of the past. Our eyes begin focusing forward, averting from the negative circumstances or trials we may find ourselves in. We have successfully navigated the road to hope—the God kind.
BELIEF >>JOY + PEACE>> HOPE
Belief, along with joy and peace, produces hope—my little equation! When we’ve reached the destination of hope, how do we hang onto it? How do we not get lost in the jungle of the world again? We are commanded to “Hold fast to the confession of hope” in Hebrews 10:23. We do that by prayer. Prayer is hope in action. Keep praying. Amen.
