The Homeless Woman – Ken Ebright
“Be strong and brave. Don’t be afraid of them and don’t be frightened, because the LORD your God will go with you. He will not leave you or forget you.” Deuteronomy 31:6 NCV.
I do street witnessing once a week. It was a cold night when I came across this woman. This woman had a blanket around her, and was wearing sandals.
I asked her the question I always ask people. “What do you think of Jesus?”
Her response was a foul insult toward Jesus that I won’t repeat.
When people get mad at me when I bring up Jesus, it is hard to know what to say, so I didn’t say much.
To me, this woman looked like she was homeless. I wondered how she got into the situation she was in. I guess the reason she reacted the way she did was because she felt abandoned by God. I can kind of relate because I felt abandoned by God, too. My mom committed suicide, and my dad re-married, and seventeen years later got divorced and abandoned me and left town.
I don’t know what happened to the woman I met while street witnessing, but she must have felt hopeless — maybe because everything she tried had failed.
God’s word promises us that if we ask Jesus into our heart, He will never leave us or abandon us. That promise doesn’t mean that I will never become homeless. I have to admit I’ve never been homeless, so I don’t know what she might be going through. But I believe that if I do become homeless, Jesus will help me through it. What I need to do is to trust him. I can have hope that someday when Jesus comes back, I won’t have to worry about anything because there will be no sin. Just remember, no matter what happens, Jesus will never abandon you.
