“So Jesus went with the men. He was getting near the officer’s house when the officer sent friends to say, “Lord, don’t trouble yourself, because I am not worthy to have you come into my house. That is why I did not come to you myself. But you only need to command it, and my servant will be healed,” Luke 7:6-7” (NCV)I noticed an eviction notice on the door of an apartment that belonged to somebody on the first level. When I saw it, I realized I have made so many mistakes financially that I don’t feel like I deserve the roof I have over my head. I have also done some really embarrassing things that have hurt the cause for Christ. I don’t feel I deserve to have a home in Heaven. That makes me think of the centurion officer who felt the same way, as though he didn’t deserve to have Jesus come under his roof. The truth is, none of us deserve eternal life. It is impossible to live a sinless life. As human beings, we have all blown it. However, there is a way to get eternal life through Jesus, to be one-hundred percent perfect in God’s eyes. God sent his Son to the earth and He is the only one who lived a perfect life. Jesus died on the cross for our sins, taking the punishment we deserved. By rising again, He justified all who would believe, taking the sting out of death and making it possible for us to go to heaven. If you believe the gospel and make Jesus your Lord and Savior, you will be assured of eternal life too. “God loved the world so much that he gave his one and only Son so that whoever believes in him may not be lost, but have eternal life. John 3:16 (NCV)
