The Darker the Night - The Brighter the Light - Robert Schaetzle
“Even the darkness is not dark to you; the night is bright as the day, for darkness is as light with you.” Psalm 139:12 ESV
Sometimes we find ourselves having a difficult time getting the rest we think we need, or sleeping as soundly as we would like. Consider… it might just be the Lord is attempting to get our attention.
When situations on our heart cause restless nights of sleep, I have discovered that our time should not be wasted dwelling upon the situation or ourselves and becoming overwrought with anxiousness. As a writer, when I encounter situations like these moments, I’ll get up, pay attention, listen and jot down on paper, or type a thought or bible verse down on the ‘note pad app’ on my phone.
Reading the life situations of our biblical heroes like Jacob for example, God spoke often to him through dreams. I’m sure even today our Lord might be getting one’s attention through dreams, as well as even waking us up from a restful sleep.
“This is the message we have heard from him and proclaim to you, that God is light, and in him is no darkness at all,” 1 John 1:5.
With our Lord, there is no such thing as night-time, or darkness! It’s true, from a sleepless night the proverbial ‘light bulb of understanding’ might shine very brightly.
But even when there’s not a ‘light-flash of inspiration’— rather than toss and turn, take hold of God’s Word and He will direct your path. Remember His promise, “There is no temptation God will not find for us the way of escape,” 1 Corinthians 10:13.
Thank You Father, even for nights without much sleep! Help me to turn all of my attention to you when I lay awake at night.
