The Best Gift Is Jesus – Toni M. Babcock
“…My tongue is the pen of a ready writer.” (Psalm 45:1 KJV)
Faith writers have an obsession with word-craft. What other craft lets you speak your mind long after your dead, or lets you sit with a cup of coffee and tap away on a laptop for hours — moving words back and forth on a screen like a Rubik’s cube? What craft lets you hang words in people’s heads instead of on their walls, or gives them the freedom to stuff your writing in a box or bookshelf when they’re done reading it?
Writing can enlist you in reflecting the words of the Master himself, who not only is “the Author and finisher of our faith” – He is the living Word. “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.” (John 1:1 KJV) “And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us – and we beheld his glory, the glory of the only begotten of the Father, full of grace and truth.” (John 1:14 KJV).
Whatever your particular creative obsession is (or isn’t) the well-known nineteenth-century pastor and author Andrew Murray hung these words in my head that I’ll never forget: “God’s words are creative deeds, they give what they speak.”
That tells me we don’t need a particular talent to become part of God’s great purpose in this world. God gives what he speaks, so anyone can receive what He speaks through faith – and His best gift is Jesus. You can participate in His creative deeds once you receive Him. You can love in His name, forgive in His name, serve in His name and give your best in His name. In fact, if you’ve got Jesus, you can never say “I’m not gifted with any talent.” In Christ, you’ve been gifted with all the talent you need. No other gift can top that.
