Take Delight – Tricia Draper
“Delight yourselves in the LORD, and he will give you the desires of your heart,” (Psalm 37:4 ESV).
People without pure faith have a misconception of this idea. They believe if they ask God for anything, this verse says they will get it. That is the promise at the end of the verse, but we must back up to the first instruction. David said, “Delight yourself in the Lord.” This is many times overlooked.
When we delight ourselves in God, we do not think of our own selfish pleasures anymore. When we put Him first in our hearts and lives, His desires become our desires. We end up wanting His will to be done. When we have only selfish intentions, God will not honor them. He knows those requests can end up harming us and others. God will never answer our self-centered prayers. When we make Him a priority in our lives, we will receive the desires of our hearts.
Father, I long to know You more. Please reveal Yourself to me in a very real way. Help me continue to grow closer to You every day. My heart desires only Your will. Thank You for loving me. In Jesus’ Name, Amen!
