TRUE CHRISTIAN UNITY – Robert Schaetzle
“Eager to maintain the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace.” Ephesians 4:3 ESV
Reading through Ephesians chapter four, within the first six verses it was pointed out to me seven ways believers are united in Jesus. From verse four it is pronounced: “we are indeed one in Body and called to the one hope that belongs to all followers of Jesus.”
Jesus promised he would provide us with ‘The Comforter’ when He promised “But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, he will teach you all things and bring to your remembrance all that I have said to you.” John 14:26 ESV
One Lord, one faith, one baptism… verse five. This short verse of six words gives us God’s pronouncement of His work. Again, from John 14:6a ESV, “I am the Way, the Truth, and The Life…”
Romans 12:3 ESV, defines our faith that is assigned to us from God. “…I say to everyone among you not to think of himself more highly than he ought to think, but to think with sober judgment, each according to the measure of faith that God has assigned.”
Our ‘Baptism of the Spirit,’ is recognized so well in 1 Corinthians 12:13 ESV, “For in one Spirit we were all baptized into one body—Jews or Greeks, slaves or free—and all were made to drink of one Spirit.” One Father… The God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, and our Lord Jesus. “Have we not all one Father? Has not one God created us…?” Malachi 2:10a ESV
We truly do have Christian unity!
Father, from your Word we recognize how you affirm our Christian unity and strengthen our fellowship with one another through Jesus. Please help us to display this unity to the world as we love our brothers and sisters in Christ. AMEN.
