Stop Double Minded Confusion
Michael Edwards
As Christians, we make a choice to play for the Coach (God), or the crowd. If we play for the crowd, there are an unlimited number of differing opinions and voices. Playing for the crowd would be called the fear of man in the Bible, more concerned about pleasing man than God. It is worshipping man over God. If we try to play for both the Coach and the crowd, it is not any better. The Bible would call this double mindedness, the divided mind God warns against.
The only way to leave the confusion behind and find the peace of God, is to play for the Coach alone, the one true voice. So, how do we hear from God on a consistent basis and be sure it is God we are hearing. There is only one way, the Coach’s playbook, God’s word.
For the word of God is alive and active… (Heb 4:12a NIV)
Jesus is the word that became flesh and dwelt among us. The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us (John 1:14a NIV). When we stand on the living word, we are standing on Jesus shoulders and can see more clearly.
How much better would our life be if we had just one primary voice to heed? No more confusion, double mindedness, or people pleasing. This is our pathway to the peace of Christ and genuine worship of God. We look to His inspired word (the mind of Christ) for our answers, then trust and obey. With one steadfast decision, we are settling an untold number of future decisions too, deciding to do all things God’s way, not man’s. Therefore, He will work out all things for our good no matter what happens – Rom 8:28.
“Therefore everyone who hears these words of mine and puts them into practice is like a wise man who built his house on the rock.” (Matt 7:24 NIV)
Make a firm decision to listen to God over all other voices. To always choose His way over man’s. One true voice, no more worrying if we have made the right decision or not. It will make our life a lot better.
