Stand Quietly - Jane H. Young
Today while eating lunch, a large crane landed over by our pond. It quickly took a stand at the edge of the pond not moving a hair, it was waiting patiently for that perfect fish. I went out and yelled several times to try and get it to leave, it didn’t move an inch, it never even looked at me. That crane was focused and single-minded, refusing to be distracted. This went on close to 30 minutes, when he finally did move, he flew away with lunch in his beak.
Are we hungry enough, determined enough to stand firm to hear from God, to not be distracted by anyone or anything, are we giving God the opportunity to speak to us?
“Moreover, He said to me, "Son of man, take into your heart all My words which I will speak to you and listen closely.” Ezekiel 3:10 NASB
When we come before God, do we come with a seeking heart, do we come expecting to hear from God? God does not speak with a megaphone; He speaks with a still, small voice. Our ability to hear God will come from these quiet moments, when the business of the world fades away, and the gentle voice of your Heavenly Father leads you. God listens when we speak to Him—when He speaks are we listening?
Do not go away from your visit with God, feeling empty, If we will stand quietly, completely ignoring everything around us— just like that crane flying off with his much-awaited lunch, we can leave knowing without a doubt we have been in the presence of our Heavenly Father.
“Wait for the Lord; Be strong and let your heart take courage; Yes, wait for the Lord.” Psalms 27:14 NASB
Prayer: Forgive me Father for all the times I have come asking for something, but not waiting long enough to hear what you may want to ask or tell me.
